If no action of advancement or progression occurs hastily then there will be influential consequences. These consequences are discussed in an assertive approach in the article. This includes that public sector's incomes would collapse, financial institutions would disintegrate and the state would be fenced around a global "debt market for years." Additionally, departing from the euro could cause wheelbarrow economics. With these repercussions, two ideologies have formed, citizens who are willing to accommodate to vicissitude and citizens who are adamant to excogitate the conception of change.
If Greece augments by debt that would increase disorder in the euro and foreign stock markets that many American small and large businesses have invested in.

ReplyDeleteOn July 24th a monumental piece of legislation went into effect in the State of New York that allows partners in same-sex relationship to get married, including all the benefits of legally recognized marriage in the state. This progressive step in altering the way homosexual relationships are accepted in American culture exemplifies the values of freedom in America. Although this law only directly affects citizens of New York, the legislation gives hope and is “a beacon for social justice movements” throughout the nation. The article further discusses how New York has become a leader for the other 54 states who have not yet legalized this practice. This bill addresses a civil rights issue throughout the country and corrects the previously inequitable acceptance of nontraditional marriages. By passing this bill, New York not only reminds people of the principles of equality, but it is the epitome of liberty that American’s strongly value.

ReplyDeleteThis article summarizes the scandal surrounding the British tabloid "News of the World," but more importantly, Rupert Murdoch and his media conglomerate. The tabloid was shut down this summer by its parent company after it was discovered that it had committed several illegal actions, not least of which was hacking a kidnapped child's phone and deleted messages, which gave false hope to her family that she was alive. The "News of the World" may have been a British newspaper, but Americans should still pay attention to this story. Since the founding of our country, we have supported the free press, but how much are we willing to tolerate? Are these media conglomerates gaining too much power? We may have to answer these questions sooner than we want to.

ReplyDeleteAmericans should pay attention to this story because it explains the difficulties our country will face in the future with creating jobs and the high unemployment rate. The article tells Americans that the biggest problem our country faces right now is not the debt ceiling or budget deficit, it is the jobs crises and we should be focusing on taking care of that. The article also explains why the debt deal is likely to make matters of unemployment in our country worse. Many Americans are out of jobs or can't find a full time job so this jobs crises really is a huge problem that needs America's attention.

ReplyDeleteThis article talks about the status of the U.S.'s stock market compared to the rest of the world's in the aftermath of the compromise regarding the debt ceiling. The result being that stocks all over the world were tumbling and the United States was no different with the dow down by .5%. This has left many people fearing a repeat of the recession. Economists are waiting for the Employment numbers to come in so they can predict whether or not this will lead to another recession. One of the main reasons our ecomony is faring so badly is because like so many other things americans have simply lost trust in it. Americans should be aware of whats going on with the economy especially something so serious because the welfare of the economy affects every single person living in the United States.

This is a very important issue at the moment because many Americans blame all Muslims for the few radical terrorists. It is important that Americans become less ignorant regarding the terrorist situation in the Middle East. Many people do not realize that Muslims are actually on our side, because they do not differentiate the general public from radicals. There are even radicals from groups in America, but we are quick to disassociate them from the rest of us. It should not be any different when we think of Muslims.

ReplyDeleteThe article “Cause for alarm: Antipsychotic drugs for nursing home patients” explains how important family is when it comes to being involved with a loved one who may have dementia and is currently in a nursing home. Dementia is a brain syndrome, and it occurs with various diseases like Alzheimer’s. This article deliberates how nurses are giving patients drugs at a higher dose than recommended. Patients with dementia aren’t able to pay attention to how much they’re given and how long they should take these drugs. Americans should pay attention to this problem because; elderly patients are at risk and could potentially die. Family members of patients should pay attention to the medications and the “black box warning” on the drugs given to their loved ones. Many companies are being sued and some even prosecuted, but most importantly elderly patients are at risk. This is a serious problem and we need to be more attentive and make sure our loved ones are safe!

ReplyDeleteThis article regarding what the American people want the congressional super committee to do about the debt showcases another example between the differences of what Washington may want, and what the people want. In the poll, 63 percent of Americans say that they want tax hikes on high income Americans. This is the exact opposite of what Washington did late last year when the Bush tax cuts were extended for everybody. Another example is that almost two thirds of the people polled did not want major cuts to entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare, while many tea party backed republicans want to take an ax to those programs. These numbers show that there is a sharp divide between Washington and the rest of America, but who is to be listened to? We send representatives to D.C. to follow the will of the people, but often the people don’t know what they want. Over half of respondents did not want major cuts in defense spending, but around 66 percent did not want cuts to Medicare and Social Security. This article is important because many people are angry that representatives are not doing the job that we sent them to do, but how can they do it when they don’t know what the job is?

There are two ways the reader can think about this story, which is exactly why it will flare up into a new battle. On one side you can wonder how conveniently planned it is that this new amazing initiative will be around the time people will remember during elections, not as soon as it could have been done. From the other side people can praise his new techniques to fix the economy and drive to stick with his promise to better America. A topic like this with opinions running on party lines are bound to raise hell. People need to begin to think about this story now so that they can find their own opinions amidst all the politics so that they wont be pressured into opinions come the September speech.

ReplyDeleteThis is an opinion piece written by Warren Buffett. In his article, Buffett, who has benefitted greatly from investing, discusses why he believes that he and his rich friends should be taxed at a higher rate, and that Congress should stop defending the rich, who do not need to become richer. I really appreciated this article because it is not often that rich people volunteer to be taxed more. This is something that Americans should pay attention to because, as Buffett said, we coddle the rich. We coddle the rich because part of the American dream is that you can move up in class no matter which one you start in. Americans don't want the rich to be taxed more because they want to become rich, and when they do they will retain the lower/middle class mindset that taxes put a huge hole in their wallet, even though when you're rich you can afford to be taxed a greater amount and not even notice. We need the rich to pay taxes at a higher rate because we need revenue to cut back our deficit. Spending cuts will never solve all our problems.

ReplyDeleteThis article talks about a very big layoff that will happen in the New York City Education department. This is the largest layoff under Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of NY city. I think Americans should know this because it affects everybody. The standard of American students is dropping. Part of the reason is because life for teachers is getting harder and harder. Last year one of my favorite teachers said that if this continues he will quit and find a more promising job. Indian students are now at the top internationally because the teachers there are treated with respect. My aunt is a teacher in India and she will be getting a pension from the government. This article states that teachers cannot find full time jobs anymore. By lowering staff, each teacher must handle more students. That puts stress on the teacher because the teacher has to grade more assignments, answer more questions, explain to more students and then have to worry about the paycheck. It harms students because the classroom environment becomes less personal. The only way to fix our education system is to stop worrying about the debt and pay the teachers. Money can be cut from other institutes such as the military but education cuts aren’t going to fix anything.
